Major Buyout: Electronic Arts Sold for $55 Billion Amid Gaming Industry Struggles

Electronic Arts Inc. has entered into a landmark agreement to be acquired in what is set to become the largest leveraged buyout in history. A consortium of investors, featuring a firm led by Jared Kushner, son-in-law of former President Donald Trump, and Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, has committed to this significant acquisition. The deal, which values the renowned video-game company at approximately $55 billion, underscores Saudi Arabia's ongoing strategy to diversify its investments beyond oil, particularly into sectors like sports and gaming that resonate with global youth culture.
Under the terms of the agreement, the investors will pay $210 per share in cash, representing a 25% premium over Electronic Arts’ stock price prior to the announcement of the negotiations. To facilitate this massive transaction, JPMorgan Chase & Co. is set to provide $20 billion in debt financing. This acquisition reflects the shifting dynamics within the gaming industry, which is currently navigating a challenging economic landscape.
