Commodore Amiga-emulating TheA1200 retro computer delayed nearly half a year by ‘global chip shortages’ — Retro Games Ltd says it will use the extra time to finesse the software

The upcoming Commodore Amiga-emulating TheA1200 retro computer has been pushed back by almost half a year. Originally scheduled for a mid-June release, the makers now insist it will be available from December 4, 2026, with no changes to the machine specs or pricing.

Retro Games Ltd, the company behind the device, blamed the delay on ongoing global chip shortages. In a statement, the team said the supply chain issues made it impossible to hit the original launch window. However, they framed the extra time as a silver lining, noting they will use the months to further polish the software and emulation performance.

TheA1200 is a modern recreation of the classic Amiga 1200, designed to play thousands of legacy games and applications. It features a compact case modeled after the original hardware, with updated connectivity options like HDMI output and USB ports. The device runs a custom emulation layer rather than original chips, which is where the software tuning comes into play.

Retro Games Ltd confirmed that the final retail price remains unchanged at the previously announced figure. Pre-orders will remain valid, and new orders will be accepted as the December date approaches. The company did not provide details on which specific chips were in short supply, but the delay joins a long list of hardware launches affected by the same global shortages over the past few years.

For fans of the Amiga era, the wait just got longer, but the promise of a more refined experience may soften the blow.
