Asha Sharma, the head of Xbox, has acknowledged that the company's decision to feature the PlayStation 5 logo during its recent Games Showcase was a misstep. In a candid internal review, Sharma reportedly called the move "a miss" and said the company will rethink its policy on how it presents rival platforms in future events.
The controversy erupted after Xbox's June showcase included a segment that displayed the PS5 branding alongside third-party titles coming to multiple consoles. Many fans took to social media to voice frustration, arguing that Xbox's own event should focus on its exclusive games and hardware, not promote a direct competitor. Some viewers felt the inclusion diluted the message of the showcase and undermined Xbox's brand identity.
Sharma's comments suggest the company is listening to that feedback. She indicated that Xbox will now more carefully consider how it handles cross-platform announcements, especially when they involve logos or branding of other systems. The goal, she said, is to keep the showcase centered on what makes Xbox unique, while still being transparent about where games are available.
This shift comes as Xbox continues to push its Game Pass subscription service and first-party titles like Starfield and Forza Motorsport. The company has been more open to releasing some games on PlayStation and Nintendo platforms in recent years, but the backlash shows that fans still expect the flagship showcase to prioritize Xbox's own ecosystem. Whether this leads to a stricter policy on showing rival logos remains to be seen, but Sharma's promise of a review signals a more cautious approach going forward.
