Tom Kane, the prolific voice actor whose credits spanned hundreds of television shows and video games, died Monday at age 64. He was best known for voicing the wise Jedi Master Yoda in the animated series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" and Professor Utonium in "The Powerpuff Girls."
According to a statement from his family, Kane passed away at his home. The cause of death was not immediately disclosed, but the actor had been in declining health since suffering a stroke in 2020. That stroke had effectively ended his voice acting career, leaving him with aphasia and limited mobility.
Kane's deep, versatile voice made him a sought-after talent in the animation and gaming industries for decades. Beyond his iconic roles, he provided voices for characters in "Ben 10," "The Simpsons," and "Batman: The Brave and the Bold." In the video game world, he narrated the "Star Wars: The Old Republic" series and voiced characters in the "Call of Duty" and "God of War" franchises.
Fans and colleagues remembered Kane not just for his distinctive voice, but for his warmth and professionalism. His portrayal of Yoda, in particular, earned him a dedicated following among "Star Wars" enthusiasts who appreciated how he captured the character's wisdom and quirky charm without simply mimicking Frank Oz's original film performance.
