Multiple agencies will join forces provide extra security at World Cup games in LA

With the first FIFA World Cup match in Los Angeles just days away, local officials are coordinating with state and national agencies to ramp up security for residents and visitors attending the events. The joint effort brings together the Los Angeles Police Department, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and California state law enforcement to cover stadiums, public viewing areas, and transit hubs.

Guadalupe Venegas reports for NBC4 at 3 p.m. on June 1, 2026. The security plan includes increased patrols, surveillance drones, and canine units, as well as road closures around SoFi Stadium and other venues. Officials say the goal is to create a safe environment without disrupting the fan experience. They are also urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The World Cup is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to the region over the coming weeks, making this one of the largest security operations in the city's history.
