A remaster of the 2002 arena fighter Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee is reportedly on the way, and it could launch before the end of the year. According to sources familiar with the project, the original developer Pipeworks is handling the remaster, with Atari set to publish it.
The game originally released on the Nintendo GameCube and later on Xbox, letting players control classic Toho monsters like Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah in destructible city environments. It was praised for its chaotic multiplayer battles and faithful monster designs, though it had a smaller roster and simpler mechanics compared to later entries in the series.
The remaster is expected to feature updated visuals, improved performance on modern hardware, and possibly some quality-of-life tweaks. It is not yet clear whether online multiplayer will be included, but given the game's focus on local versus matches, that would be a key addition for today's audience.
Atari has been reviving older properties in recent years, including re-releases of classic arcade titles and new entries in the Alone in the Dark series. A return to the Godzilla fighting game franchise could appeal to both nostalgic fans and a new generation of kaiju enthusiasts.
No official announcement has been made yet, but reports suggest the remaster could be revealed in the coming months.
