20 Weirdest Licensed Video Games EVER

Not every licensed video game aims for accuracy. Some take the source material and twist it into something so bizarre it barely resembles the original. Here are 20 of the weirdest examples that left players scratching their heads.

First up is "Chef's Luv Shack," a cooking-themed game show based on the cartoon "The Ren & Stimpy Show." Instead of platforming, players answer trivia questions and throw food at each other. Then there's "Barbie: Super Model," which turned the fashion doll into a 3D runway walker where you literally just move left and right to avoid obstacles. It's less about fashion and more about dodging paparazzi.

"E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" for Atari is infamous, but few remember the "E.T." game for the Game Boy Advance, which turned the alien into a point-and-click adventure with puzzles involving phone home parts. "The Simpsons: Road Rage" is basically "Crazy Taxi" with Springfield characters, but the weird part is how it ignores the show's humor for repetitive driving.

"Kung Fu Panda: Showdown of Legendary Legends" is a fighting game that includes characters like Master Shifu and Po, but also adds random animals like a crocodile and a snow leopard that never appeared in the movies. "The Godfather: The Game" lets you play as a made man, but the strangest element is the "respect" system where you can intimidate shop owners by smashing their windows.

"Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" for the Game Boy Color is a top-down RPG with turn-based battles, which feels more like "Final Fantasy" than a wizard school. "The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure" for the NES is a side-scroller where Ariel swims and collects items, but the final boss is a giant Ursula who shoots lightning bolts.

"SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom" is a solid platformer, but the "Revenge of the Flying Dutchman" spin-off turns the ghost into a playable character who can possess objects. "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends" for the NES is a mess of minigames that barely resemble the cartoon, including a skiing segment that controls like a broken joystick.

"Alien: Resurrection" for the PlayStation is a first-person shooter where you play as a cloned Ripley, but the weirdest part is the "alien" mode where you control a xenomorph and eat humans. "The Grinch" for the N64 is a stealth game where you have to steal Christmas presents while avoiding the Whos, which is oddly dark for a Dr. Seuss property.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan" is a beat-em-up, but the "TMNT: Smash-Up" fighting game includes characters like the Splinter and Casey Jones, but also a random "Mouser" robot that is just a giant mouse. "The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge" is a hack-and-slash where you play as Jack Skellington, but the combat involves using a "soul robber" whip that feels out of place.

"Shrek: Hassle at the Castle" for the Game Boy Advance is a top-down adventure where Shrek collects onions and fights knights, but the final boss is a dragon that shoots fireballs. "The Lion King: Simba's Mighty Adventure" for the Game Boy Color is a platformer where Simba can roar to stun enemies, but the levels include a "jungle" segment where you ride a giraffe.

"Finding Nemo" for the Game Boy Advance is a side-scroller where you play as Nemo and swim through levels, but the "boss" fights involve avoiding jellyfish and sharks. "Cars: Mater-National Championship" is a racing game, but the "Mater" character has a special ability to "hook" other cars, which is just weird.

Finally, "The Simpsons: Hit & Run" is a Grand Theft Auto clone that works surprisingly well, but the "Bart's Nightmare" segment where you play as Bart in a dream world is pure surrealism. These games prove that sometimes, the weirdest ideas come from the most unexpected licenses.
