Two beloved GameCube titles, long sought-after by fans for a modern re-release, may have been prematurely revealed. Images on a major retailer's website have sparked widespread speculation that "Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door" and "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes" are coming to the Nintendo Switch Online service.
The retailer's product pages for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, which already includes a library of Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games, briefly featured artwork for these two iconic GameCube games. While the images were swiftly removed, the brief appearance was captured by numerous observers, sending the gaming community into a frenzy.
Both titles are considered masterpieces from the early 2000s era. "Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door" is widely hailed as one of the finest RPGs in Nintendo's history, renowned for its witty writing and unique paper-themed aesthetic. "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes" continued the groundbreaking first-person adventure formula of its predecessor, offering a darker, more challenging experience. Their addition would significantly bolster the value of the premium subscription tier.
Nintendo has made no official announcement regarding these titles. The company is known for its secrecy and often unveils such additions through its own Direct presentations. This incident mirrors previous retailer leaks that have accurately forecasted upcoming game releases. For now, fans are left hoping this digital sighting is a promise of things to come, potentially bringing two more classic adventures to the Switch.
