The popular tabletop strategy game Wyrmspan, from the creators of the hit Wingspan, is officially making the jump to digital. An engine-building game that asks players to excavate a sprawling cave system and raise dragons within it, Wyrmspan will launch on Steam later this year.
Unlike its bird-themed predecessor, Wyrmspan shifts the action underground. Players take on the role of dragon keepers, tasked with clearing out cavern chambers and attracting a variety of mythical creatures. Each dragon has unique abilities and habitat preferences, forcing players to carefully manage their resources and build a synergistic engine over the course of the game. The digital adaptation aims to replicate the tactile feel of the board game while adding automated scoring, solo play against an AI opponent, and online multiplayer.
The announcement comes as Stonemaier Games continues to expand its digital footprint. While no exact release date has been set, the studio confirmed that the Steam version will include all the content from the base board game, with potential for future expansions. For fans of strategic card play and resource management, Wyrmspan promises a deep, rewarding challenge that is both accessible to newcomers and demanding for veterans. The game is expected to enter early access or a beta phase in the coming months.
