Halo Infinite jabs, a Simpsons gag and a haircut: How NFL teams dropped 2026 schedule dates

The NFL's annual schedule release has become its own kind of offseason spectacle, and this year teams pulled out all the stops. On Thursday night, franchises ditched the standard press release in favor of elaborate video productions, pop culture homages, and more than a few inside jokes to announce their 2026 opponents and game dates.

The Kansas City Chiefs leaned into gaming culture with a "Halo Infinite" inspired clip, complete with a Spartan-suited player dropping a football instead of a plasma grenade. The bit landed well with fans who caught the callback to the team's previous sci-fi themed teasers. Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys went for laughs with a "Simpsons" couch gag, showing the animated family scrambling to rearrange furniture as the schedule flashed across the screen. It was a short, sweet nod to the show's iconic opening credits.

Not every team needed a big budget. The Chicago Bears posted a simple video of a barber giving a customer a haircut, with each snip revealing a new opponent logo shaved into the back of his head. It was low-tech but effective, and it got people talking about the Bears' tough stretch of road games in November.

Other highlights included the Seattle Seahawks dropping a "Top Gun" style dogfight sequence and the New Orleans Saints recreating a classic jazz funeral parade, complete with a brass band and a coffin labeled "bye week." The trend shows that teams are willing to invest serious time and money into making the schedule drop feel like an event, even if the actual games are still months away. For fans, it was a welcome distraction from the long wait until kickoff.
